Problem and operational context
Taking orders online does not by itself automate print production. Customer copy and design preferences are often collected across separate channels, files are rebuilt, dimensions are rechecked, and desktop tools require additional preparation. This gap between the order screen and the production desk creates repeated data entry and manual file-preparation work.
Project constraints
Customers needed design freedom while remaining inside products and dimensions the print shop could actually produce. The browser preview, order record, and desktop production file had to preserve the same design data. Sensitive production rules and implementation details also had to remain separate from the public interface.
What TankDev built
TankDev built a bespoke Next.js website, product and dimension data model, live personalization and original-design editor, FastAPI service layer, PostgreSQL order infrastructure, admin panel, and desktop production software integrated with Adobe Illustrator as one system.
Two customer design paths
Customers can personalize permitted fields on a ready invitation, business card, or other print product, or start from a blank canvas using more than 200 premium SVG icons, fonts, and layout tools. Both paths feed the same controlled order model.
Design bound to production dimensions
The design area is not an unconstrained canvas. Customers choose from print dimensions defined by the print shop; the canvas is configured for that product and the selected size remains attached to the order.
Engineering approach
The web interface, API, relational data model, admin panel, and desktop production application operate around the same order identity and design data. A validation layer checks the product, dimensions, and required design data before production transfer. Exact validation rules, conversion logic, and production configuration are not published to protect intellectual property.
From admin panel to desktop production
When artwork is complete, the product, dimensions, choices, and design data enter the admin panel as one order record. The print operator transfers approved work to the purpose-built desktop application without collecting the same information again or rebuilding the artwork from scratch.
Adobe Illustrator integration and outputs
The desktop software works with the Adobe Illustrator workflow. Applying the production rules, approved artwork can be prepared as AI, PDF, or PNG in one click. Customers do not need to manage technical print-file details, while the print shop keeps its production tool inside the connected workflow.
Web platform and data layer
The customer platform was built with Next.js, the service layer with FastAPI, and the data layer with PostgreSQL. Product, dimension, artwork, and order records are held across those layers under one job identity.
Outcome, impact, and current boundaries
The system turns customer artwork, order records, administration, and print-file preparation into one connected production workflow. Manual transfer and repeated preparation steps are reduced, but no verified time saving, error-rate reduction, revenue increase, or conversion KPI has yet been published. Real usage measurements should be reported later with method and comparison period.
